Trauma Scene Decontamination (biohazard remediation)
Our trauma scene decontamination technicians are compliant with the Engineering, Work Practice, and Administrative Controls required to perform this type of workWe are in compliance with Engineering Controls such as Personal Protective Equipment (OSHA 1910.132), Bloodborne Pathogens (OSHA 1910.1030), and Respiratory Protection (OSHA 1910.134).

In addition to the Engineering Controls, our trauma scene decontamination technicians are experts in Work Practice Controls such as Confined Space (OSHA 1910.146) and Hazard Communication (OSHA 1910.1200).  We adhere to Administrative Controls, such as scheduling due to safety concerns, on a project-to-project basis.

Methamphetamine Lab Cleanup
The two components of clandestine methamphetamine (meth) labs residue property remediation are Bulk Decontamination and Residual Decontamination. Residual decontamination is the cleanup of the lab residue remaining from the operation of the meth lab. This meth lab residue cleanup is performed after bulk decontamination is complete. The bulk decontamination is the removal of the bulk chemicals, lab hardware, and any quantity of methamphetamine produced from the operation. Decontamination is the process of reducing the level of meth residue contamination to the lowest practical level using current best practice recovery and neutralization methods.

At a minimum, decontamination must reduce contamination of specified substances below the meth residue residual surface concentrations allowed by regulation tolerances. The state regulators are authorized to establish standards for the cleanup of illegal laboratories used to manufacture methamphetamine, which property owners are required to meet after the discovery of these clandestine labs.

Tear Gas in a Structure Cleaning
In our trauma response projects, we have encountered pepper spray and several versions of tear gas.  The two types of tear gas, CS and CN, along with pepper spray, are products that painfully irritate the eyes and induce temporary blindness.  These affects are used to subdue or manage those involved in traumatic events such as SWAT response and crowd disbursement.

Once we are contracted to remediate structures affected by these chemical irritants, the first step is to introduce neutralizing chemicals to calm the effects of the chemical irritant in order to begin remediation.  We distribute the neutralizing chemicals via chemical foggers throughout the structure and in the ventilation system.  Once the residual chemical irritant dust is neutralized, we set up HEPA-filtered air scrubbers throughout the structure to recover the dust and begin purifying the air.

Examples of tear gas agents used:
Pyrotechnic CS Agent Flameless Grenade
Liquid Agent CN Ferret Round
Blast Agent CN Ferret Powder Round
Blast Agent Oleoresin Capsicum OC Instantaneous Blast Grenade
Liquid Agent CS Ferret Round
Pyrotechnic CN Agent Flameless Grenade

We then begin to manipulate the contents of the affected structure.  This causes the chemical irritant dust that was out of reach from the initial neutralizer fogging to become airborne again and it may settle onto the clothing, hair, and any exposed skin of those trying to remediate the environment.  Additional applications of neutralizer are needed throughout the process.  Chemical extractors are used on surfaces and the carpet. These extractors shoot neutralizer and recover affected residue in one step.
